Dinantia is a messaging platform for schools, run from Barcelona. Staff send messages, questions and authorisation requests from a web panel or the teacher app, and families receive them in a free app or by email. It is common in Catalan schools, and the vendor says more than 900 institutions use it. It belongs to LiveKid, a Kraków company that makes software for nurseries. Tech.eu reported in 2023 that Dinantia was one of LiveKid’s acquisitions in Spain.

Who it’s for

Dinantia suits primary and secondary schools in Spain that want one official channel to families and need a written record of who read what. A Catalan primary school that is tired of class WhatsApp groups and paper slips for every outing is the typical customer.

It is not a management system. If you need grades, timetables or fee collection, you will need another product alongside it. Our parent communication rankings list the other options.

What it does well

The email fallback is the feature to show a sceptical head teacher. Families who never download the app receive every message by email and can still reply, answer questions and justify absences, and the school still sees whether they opened it. Families only need an email address to register, with no codes or passwords to hand out in September.

Read tracking works per message. The office can see who read a notice and when, send a reminder to those who haven’t, and export answers to a question as an Excel file. Staff can ask for an outing authorisation, which Dinantia says has legal validity, call families to a meeting, run a survey or ask who will attend a school event.

Attendance takes under a minute from any device, according to Dinantia. Families of absent pupils can get an automatic alert and justify the absence from the app with an attachment, such as a doctor’s note. The school sees statistics by pupil, group and period.

The Stop Bullying channel lets pupils and parents report bullying anonymously to a coordinator the school appoints, then talk to them in an encrypted chat. They can choose to reveal their identity later. It gives the school a documented route for reports that would otherwise arrive as a quiet word in the corridor.

The school keeps control of the conversation. Admins choose who can message whom, decide whether families can reply, set time slots when staff receive messages and can review all messages. Families never see other parents’ contact details.

The app also has a group calendar with colour coding for families with several children, the canteen menu, a news wall, newsletters that also reach former pupils and prospective families, and a daily class log where teachers record positive and negative behaviour and choose what parents see. Schools can use the generic app or pay for a custom app with their own name and logo in the stores.

Where it falls short

Dinantia’s website does not mention online payments, so schools that want to collect money for trips or the canteen will need another tool. Ask in the demo whether payments are available, because older third-party profiles mention them.

The site lists no integrations with school management systems such as Alexia or Clickedu. Ask how families and groups get into Dinantia each September and how mid-year changes are handled. A manual import suits one primary school but becomes tiresome for a large secondary.

Development looks slow from outside. The website says nothing about the message translation that competitors now offer. The iOS app was last updated in April 2026, so it is maintained, but ask about the roadmap under LiveKid.

Pricing

Dinantia does not publish prices. The app is free for families. Schools can start a 30-day free trial, and Dinantia offers a 20% discount to special education schools and organisations working with people with intellectual disabilities. The generic app costs less than a custom-branded one, so ask for both quotes. Our guide to the total cost of school software covers what else to ask.

Privacy and data

Dinantia’s privacy policy names Dinantia, at Passeig de Gràcia 50 in Barcelona, as the company responsible, cites the GDPR and Spain’s LOPDGDD, and says it processes pupils’ data under processing contracts signed with schools. It lists Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services as sub-processors and places them in the EU, in Belgium and Ireland. It says data obtained through Google services is not sold or used for advertising, and that Dinantia shares personal data only with providers that deliver the service.

The policy does not mention ENS or ISO certification, gives no fixed retention period after a school leaves, and says nothing about AI use. The homepage still refers to compliance with the LOPD, the law the LOPDGDD replaced in 2018. Ask for the processing contract and a deletion timeline before you sign, and work through our student data privacy checklist.

Verdict

Dinantia is a dependable choice for Spanish schools, especially in Catalonia, that want controlled messaging, trip authorisations and absence alerts, with email as a safety net for families who won’t install an app. Schools that want to collect payments in the same app should look at TokApp School, and schools that need grades and records should start with a management system.
