Synergy is the student information platform from Edupoint Educational Systems, a company based in Mesa, Arizona, that was founded by Bob Weathers and has built school data systems for more than 30 years. The core is Synergy SIS, which handles enrollment, attendance, scheduling, grading and state reporting for US K-12 districts. Edupoint sells it as part of the Synergy Education Platform, which also includes Synergy LMS, Synergy Special Education, assessment, an MTSS module with an early warning system, and analytics. Families use the ParentVUE app and students use StudentVUE.

Who it’s for

Synergy fits US districts that want to replace several separate systems with one. If your district runs one product for attendance and grades, another for IEPs and 504 plans, a third for intervention tracking and a fourth for course pages, Synergy can cover all of them from one vendor. Edupoint’s pitch rests on that single database. A teacher, a counselor and a special education coordinator all look at the same student record, so nobody waits for an overnight sync.

It also fits states that want a common system. In February 2026 the New Mexico Public Education Department picked Synergy as its statewide SIS to replace seven or more different systems, with the first group of districts starting in summer 2026. In March 2026 Tennessee re-selected Edupoint as a state-approved SIS vendor, where it has served districts for more than a decade. If your state offers Synergy on a state contract, the procurement work may already be done.

What it does well

Special education is the clearest strength. Without it, IEPs often live in a separate product with its own login. Synergy handles special education and 504 plans in the same platform, so a case manager can see attendance and grades next to the plan, and a classroom teacher can see the accommodations for a student without asking for a copy.

The MTSS and early warning tools follow from the same idea. Attendance patterns, grades and behavior sit in one place, so a counselor can pull a list of ninth graders who are slipping in two subjects and missing Mondays, and track the interventions in the same system. New Mexico’s education department named the Synergy for States analytics, which covers attendance trends, early warnings and graduation readiness, as one reason it chose the platform.

Tennessee’s contract shows how the modules fit together. The core SIS is the required starting point, and districts can add the LMS, assessment, MTSS, special education and analytics modules as they retire other tools.

ParentVUE and StudentVUE cover the family side. Parents check grades, attendance and assignments on their phones, and students see their own schedule and missing work, which cuts down on the “what’s my grade?” emails in the last week of term.

Where it falls short

The single-vendor approach works best when you take several modules. A district that only wants an SIS and already has an LMS and an IEP system it likes gets less from Synergy’s main selling point. Price the modules you would actually use, and be honest about which current tools you are willing to retire.

Synergy LMS has a smaller following than dedicated platforms. Teachers coming from Canvas or Schoology will find fewer outside training materials and a smaller community. Run a pilot with a few departments before you switch off an existing LMS.

The link to a dedicated messaging tool is still basic. In 2025 Edupoint announced a partnership with ParentSquare to make it easier for Synergy districts to use ParentSquare for family communication. Edupoint said data moves between them by SFTP file transfer for now, with an API connection planned. A file transfer runs on a schedule, so a new enrollment or a changed phone number may not reach ParentSquare until the next run, and the messaging tool is a second contract to budget for.

Pricing

Edupoint does not publish prices. Districts get a quote based on the modules they choose, and state contracts such as Tennessee’s set terms for districts in that state. Ask for module-by-module pricing, implementation and data migration costs, and training. Our guide to choosing a student information system covers what to compare.

Privacy and data

We could not confirm Edupoint’s hosting arrangements or security certifications from its public materials for this review. Before you sign, ask whether your data will sit on Edupoint-hosted servers or your own, where those servers are, and for the latest independent security audit report. Ask for a signed data privacy agreement that covers the special education records, which carry extra legal duties.

If you connect ParentSquare or other tools, list what data each one receives. A nightly SFTP file to a messaging vendor usually carries names, contact details and class lists, and your agreement with that vendor needs to cover them. Our student data privacy checklist has the full list of questions.

Verdict

Synergy is a good fit for a US district that wants the SIS, special education, MTSS and an LMS on one database, and it is an easy choice where a state contract already covers it. Get the security documentation in writing, because little of it is public. Districts that only need an SIS, or that are happy with their LMS and IEP tools, should also compare PowerSchool SIS and Infinite Campus.
