Wayground is the new name for Quizizz. The company renamed the product in June 2025 and moved it from quizizz.com to wayground.com, and old links redirect. Wayground’s help center says accounts, content and existing contracts carried over, and that Quizizz Inc. is still the legal company behind it. The product started as a self-paced quiz game and now also covers slide presentations, questions inside videos, flashcards and AI tools that write or adapt activities. It suits classroom teachers from upper primary through secondary who want one tool for quick checks, homework and review games.

Who it’s for

Wayground fits teachers who want quiz practice without the race of a timed game show. Students answer at their own pace, so a slow reader in Year 8 is not rushed off a question while the fastest students move on. It also suits schools that want common assessments across a department, because the school plan rolls up results by teacher, class and standard.

If you only run a quiz once a fortnight, the free plan or Kahoot! will do. A department that wants shared assessments should budget for the school plan.

What it does well

The same activity runs three ways. You can host it live with music and a leaderboard, set it as homework with a deadline, or switch to a test setting with the game elements turned off. A history teacher can use one question set as a starter game on Tuesday and as a short graded check the following week.

The library is large. Search for “photosynthesis” or “fractions to decimals” and you get pages of activities that other teachers have published, which you can copy and edit. It saves a lot of typing.

Accommodations are the strongest part of the product for mixed classes. Wayground lists more than 25, including read-aloud, translation, dyslexia-friendly fonts and reduced distractions, and you can set them per student. A student with an EAL plan can get the questions translated while the rest of the class sees English, without a separate version of the quiz.

The AI tools generate an activity from a topic, a document or a standard, and can rewrite an existing one at a different reading level. They also find pause points in a video and write questions for them. Check the answers before you use them.

For tests, Wayground has a lockdown mode and alerts when a student switches tabs. That won’t stop a student with a second device.

Where it falls short

The free plan is tighter than it used to be. Wayground’s plans page lists storage for 20 activities, up to 100 students, limited question types and limited access to the standards-aligned library. A teacher with five classes and a habit of writing a quiz per lesson fills 20 slots in a few weeks and then has to delete old work or ask the school to pay.

The interface has grown busy. The menus now mix quizzes, presentations, lesson plan generators and worksheet makers, and new staff can take a while to find the plain “create a quiz” path. A short demo in a staff meeting helps.

Ready-made activities from the library carry other teachers’ mistakes. Answer keys are sometimes wrong, and some questions don’t match your curriculum’s wording. Read library activities before you grade with them.

Pricing

Wayground has a free Basic plan for individual teachers, with the limits above. The help center also describes an individual paid plan called Super, but we could not find a published price for it on Wayground’s site in November 2026. School and district plans are quoted per school or district, and Wayground accepts purchase orders. If your school later buys a school plan, Wayground’s help center describes a pledge to reimburse teachers who paid for an individual plan for the same school year, so keep your receipt.

Privacy and data

Wayground’s privacy policy says it does not rent, sell or exchange personal information, does not show third-party ads and does not show behaviourally targeted ads to students. It says it has completed a SOC 2 Type II examination and holds ISO 27001 certification. Data is hosted in the United States on Amazon Web Services, which schools outside the US should note for their own data protection checks.

Students can join a game with a code and a nickname, with no account. For children under 13, Wayground says it collects at most a parent’s email address and possibly a first name, and seeks parental consent. On AI, the policy says Wayground has turned off its AI providers’ use of its user data for training and does not send personal information to them. The AI tools are on by default, so a school that wants them off needs to tell staff. Our student data privacy checklist covers what else to ask for before a whole-school rollout.

Verdict

Wayground is one of the best general quiz tools for schools, with real strengths in accommodations and in running the same activity as a game, homework or test. The free plan now suits occasional use, not a teacher who builds a quiz every lesson, so plan to pay at department level. Teachers who want a simple, quiet check with no extras should look at Socrative, and those who want flashcard study for students at home should look at Quizlet. Our guide to formative assessment with quiz apps compares the approaches.
